WIN for absentee voting!!!
In response to our lawsuit, the state of #Minnesota has agreed to make it easier for people to #vote absentee in the state’s August 11 primary while protecting themselves from #COVID19. A win for voters & democracy!https://campaignlegal.org/press-releases/clc-lwv-secure-safe-absentee-voting-minnesota-primary-amid-pandemic …

Previously,
#Minnesota voters needed a physically-present witness to certify their ballot if they wanted to vote absentee in the August primary—NOT compatible with social distancing. But under the agreement now submitted for court approval,#Minnesota voters WON'T need this.1 reply 1 retweet 1 likeShow this thread -
This victory is for Minnesotans like Vivian Latimer Tanniehill, a senior citizen who feared contracting
#COVID19 if she had to seek a witness just to exercise her right to vote.#Democracy works best when all can participate. Read Vivian's story: https://www.lwv.org/blog/standing-voting-rights-2020-plaintiffs-story …1 reply 1 retweet 2 likesShow this thread -
Today’s agreement applies to Minnesota’s August primary, but the fight isn't over. We're continuing to seek a court order blocking these witness requirements for the Nov. 2020 election & striking down Minnesota’s restrictions on who can serve as a witness for future elections.

Other states have witness requirements, too—12 in total. Two of them—Virginia & Rhode Island—have voluntarily waived/modified their requirements due to #COVID19. It is critical to #democracy & public health that every American is able to vote absentee this year without barriers.
