Previously, #Minnesota voters needed a physically-present witness to certify their ballot if they wanted to vote absentee in the August primary—NOT compatible with social distancing.
But under the agreement now submitted for court approval, #Minnesota voters WON'T need this.
This victory is for Minnesotans like Vivian Latimer Tanniehill, a senior citizen who feared contracting #COVID19 if she had to seek a witness just to exercise her right to vote.

Today’s agreement applies to Minnesota’s August primary, but the fight isn't over. We're continuing to seek a court order blocking these witness requirements for the Nov. 2020 election & striking down Minnesota’s restrictions on who can serve as a witness for future elections.
Other states have witness requirements, too—12 in total. Two of them—Virginia & Rhode Island—have voluntarily waived/modified their requirements due to #COVID19. It is critical to #democracy & public health that every American is able to vote absentee this year without barriers.
