Shirley Chisholm represented NY-12 in Congress from 1969 to 1983. In 1972, she launched a campaign for President of the United States, becoming the first woman to compete for the Democratic Party nomination, and the first black presidential candidate of any major party. #IWD2019pic.twitter.com/YHDro8WolE
