MPs also have to wrap up all their affairs after the election, unpaid, although they can keep some staff on for a limited period to help wrap up affairs. That is a lot of hassle extracting yourself from leases and contracts, especially when it's a mid-term election.

I was fortunate in that my wife works, and was able to support me until I could resolve all my affairs and then return to a job in my old line of work

Also worth noting that IPSA, whilst full of lovely people, is a pretty shambolic organisation, and I've never had a job with worse expenses than when I was an MP. The days when MPs could make money on property and claim for things freely have well and truly (and rightly) gone.

If being an MP was some sort of career move as opposed to an act of public service (well paid public service) then maybe you made a bad career move? I care more for the people who are suffering badly at the hands of this tory Gov than any failed MP.
-
What a charmer you are. You clearly don't know me, and have ignored my point. I didn't do it for money, or career. I did it off the back of working hard for Yes, and wanting to help folk - as a voluntary Director of Citizens Advice Direct I saw the sharp end of Tory austerity.
-
If you choose not to care about the point I am making, then you can't complain if Parliament becomes even more filled with people who are independently wealth...

Let’s not forget MPs have had two pay rises recently even though the rest of us have had stagnated wages & austerity.
-
Absolutely, but that doesn't change the points I'm making here.

If you had been in any job for less than 5 years any redundancy payments would be limited anyway. You knew the deal before you were elected.
-
Missing my points completely, but then your replies are usually in the trolling category. One of the upsides of no longer being elected is I've no qualms about blocking folk. Life is too short to waste time.
-
Thanks. I think if you were to be very honest with yourself and read my tweets carefully you will see that I question our public servants and their effectiveness. Call it trolling if you wish but maybe it is denial. Cheerio and good luck

Quentin hasn’t worked out that there’s such a thing as an MP who doesn’t make five times as much as a “consultant” as they get as their MP salary.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

Challenging? Get a grip, you were on fixed term contracts. I’ve been on many and have never had a redundancy payment once the term was completed.

.....and I’m blocked.
