So I guess (unless you want to fork out a lot) Maya Indie is the choice if you want to continue using Maya when you lose access to the Educational/Teacher version. It's priced better and it's the full version of Maya. https://area.autodesk.com/maya-indie/

Last year they had a limited time offer for Maya Indie for ppl to try out but then the offer expired. Hopefully w it back this will be a permanent option for all users to have albeit still having to pay but it's worth it compared to Maya LTs toolset for anims in comparison
I'm hoping it is a permanent thing, I would have no issues buying a yearly license for Maya Indie at it's current price.
