Nonsensical headline. The Swiss are a highly orderly lot, with a small welfare state and a homogenous (by canton) population that regulates itself. The culture drives the low rate, not gun laws.

And there in lies the flaw with Leftist arguments. America has a melding of cultures, while Switzerland is primarily a homogeneous society. America moved away from a melting pot of people with similar cultural ideals to a society that prized arbitrary differences over ideals.

Yeah - anyone who can’t get along with Swiss law/authority (or any other flavor for that matter) comes here! That’s why we’re such a belligerent lot!

Except that doesn't seem to be the case. I routinely watch Youtube videos from foreign Youtubers. In these videos they discuss the differences between their homelands and America after visiting. Not a single one thus far has not stated Americans are friendly as one.

Though, and this is just based on my observations, but it seems to me that many other nations aren't as politically motivated as we are here in America. We've gotten to a stage where everything is political, even things in stories that are used as a shorthand show villainy.

I have seen the same, but I think it’s because they are less inclined to buck the “that’s not very Swiss of you” comments. It’s a shaming, and that’s okay, but anyone who isn’t as focused on “being Swiss” as they are on doing whatever the hell else they’re into is going to leave.

I agree. America is the most diverse society in the world though, and we have our issues. Much of which is exaggerated by the rise of the grievance industry that has grown into a billion dollar industry. With both sides benefiting from it. Those who promote it and fight it

Agreed - but I guess I’m trying to say that some degree of that friction will always be present -because- of our diversity. The rules need to be lowest-common-denominator because they have to apply to SO MANY different scenarios. I love it, just to be clear 😉

Yes. We (the United States), do NOT have a firearm problem. We have a problem with people. If we were to remove every single firearm this instant, we would still have a people problem, and there would still be mass murders and violence on a vast scale.

Past generations treated guns as a tool and most people had one or more. Now, everyone is afraid of them and refuses to own and learn how to use one. So most people are sitting ducks.

Also, their military wasn’t involved in any shooting situations for >1000 years, no minorities, homogeneous population, no pressing political issues, little to no poverty etc.

The Czech Republic might be an even better example. They even allow conceal carry, and the percentage of the population with a permit to do so is about on par with that in Texas.

They're looking at the wrong things other than, perhaps, mandatory military service for all men above a certain age. They have an homogeneous culture, high literacy rate, low single parent family rate. I'm also betting they institutionalized the dangerously mentally ill.

They live in small, mostly homogenous neighborhoods and communities, with a meager welfare state and a very uniform respect for rules. Single parent families make up about 6% of households. The US is about 23%.

In other words, they look and act like most of America outside the seven high gun crime urban centers. Why don't we ban large cities?

Basel, Zurich and Geneva are pretty large, but the people populating them are nested in an orderly society.
