I immediately went home with my family and we all realized the severity of the situation when you could see smoke in the sky from my town. We were glued to our TV and as a 6 year old I watched live footage of people jumping out of the towers to their death to evade the fire.

Some of my best friends lost family members to the terror attacks on 9/11 and to this day I still get chills whenever I see video of the planes striking the towers. However, through it all America became stronger and came together in a way that I've never seen before.

It didn't matter what race, gender, religion, or political preference, there was a real sense of unity like the entire country became family. This is why I love America. Americans don't give up. We overcome obstacles and become stronger together.

It makes me sad you experienced this at such a young age
-
What's even more sad is that he (and ppl his age) are the last ones to remember it. A 20 year old didn't see this happen. It means next to nothing to them. It'll be forgotten. Anyone younger than him (and me) didn't experience it.

You are so right.
