When I'm quoting from a group's statement, I use quote marks.
Then why not put quote marks around "championing"? Because you added the 'ing'? Don't know why it can't be the case that 1) They're "championing" free speech, and 2) they need the money, and these items sell well. Why is the second point "cynical"? Think about it.
