No words- I work w/ children with Autism and the low functioning kiddos are comparable to this lady’s son. I will NOT be suggesting this as parent reading material. As far as the “protests” I’m curious if she’s tried basic ABA strategies, reinforcement, first/then, extinction etc

I would implore you to. Her sentiment is still odious but my revulsion was tempered by compassion reading through it, and shows once again that the answer to such problems is not less compassion but more. We should look for such people in our own lives and offer help if we can.

I agree I had made a statement about how hard it is for parents that must care for a child until they die, even when their own health starts a downturn Then they are wracked with guilt and worry in the final months of what happens to their child when they are gone 1/2

The problems I have? Using real names Obviously getting a makeover for the photos Including the son in the photos Making it a pro abortion piece, when you could leave it as explaining a difficult situation and having compassion for those the 92% that do choose abortion 2/2

Could you post a link to the actual story

That is so terrible. I feel that sometimes it's not courageous to admit to ones own cowardice and that's how I feel about this. I can't help but think if she was able to say this publicly, what she could have said privately.

Your points are valid, and I think she exploited her son to get in the paper To be clear I just felt empathy for people who have to deal with that challenge. Not her. Some embrace it and feel it enriches their life, which I admire, as it must be difficult as the years go by

I work with families with children on the spectrum (ASD) and you can see the tiredness in the parent’s eyes sometimes and the worry in the parents w/ low functioning kiddos. None of them would write an article like this (think if that man could read and comprehend). Sad.

Remember a mind is like a parachute - it needs to be open to work. Do not fall into the trap of the headline.

Maybe you should. It’s a very sad story. Very easy for everyone else to sit in their ivory towers and judge others. Perhaps we would all more understanding if we walked a mile in her shoes.

Don't care, above all human life is sacred. You don't get to murder your kids because they embarass you on a plane. It's sickening that she would say this about her son of 45 years.

I wasn't talking to you.

Smart guy! I read it. My husband and I live it every day for 26 years, not just once in awhile. We love our son and find this woman appalling. On a brighter side, love the photos of Jack!

Good call. I read it and let just say it felt like the story was in real time. It was just complaint after complaint. They clearly think that there is a threshold of inconvenience beyond which it is clearly acceptable to kill the source of it and that we'll agree. Really sad.
