The black aka bubonic plague disappeared in Europe because of improved hygiene and the fact it killed so many that it ran out of people to infect. And it is still around in other parts of the world. And in medieval times you could only expect 2-3 of 10 kids to survive.

That's the part of the antivax argument that gets me: our grandparents didn't have vaccines, and we're all here!! Well, my grandparents would be happy if every 1/4 kids reached adulthood, and I don't like those odds!!
