Truly an excellent read! Evangelical "Christianity" is NOT about Christ. It's about using fear and abuse to gain power and control. The opposite of what Jesus himself taught.

I'm now an atheist, but I grew up going to services every Sunday in a mainstream Protestant church. No evangelizing. My parents were not religious, but they were very moral and highly principled. You were abused by your religion. I hope you can heal, and reach those people.

I've long felt that the distinguishing characteristic of fundamentalism is the denial of a perspective — of an interpretive framework, of an internal system of belief beyond "the plain text" of scripture. It exerts a tremendous emotional and cognitive load.
