    If you left a toxic Christian community or denomination—whether recently or long ago, for healthy religion or no religion—why not share your story using the hashtag? It’s a way to express solidarity with others while putting the Christian Right on notice!

    And here's the thread in which became a call to share stories of why we're leaving or have already left racist, sexist, and anti-LGBTQ Christian communities. You know, it wouldn't hurt to share stories with the hashtag again. What's yours?

    There was so much pressure to "accept Christ" or go to hell. It was a quite stressful theology for a 13 year old struggling with obsessive thinking. We were even told not to have non Christian friends unless we could convert them.

    In the last couple years they've added a "what we believe" section to their website, which features only SIX points but one is about how they don't condone or recognize gay marriage & another about how they don't condone gender transition. They've really shown their true colors.

    I went to a "non-denominational" church in Texas for ages 12-18, and it turned me off religion for almost a decade. The church had a "casual atmosphere" but authoritarian beliefs and implicit right-wing politics. One of the pastors was a gay conversion therapist.

    You know what would really piss off the Christian Right? For my and 's Empty the Pews: Stories of Leaving the Church to sell so many copies they can't possibly ignore it. Just sayin' 😉

    I left conservative Christianity as a young adult because I was unhappy with the way my community treated women, sexuality, and science. I respect the value religion, faith, and spirituality can bring to other people's lives, but it's not for me.

    I was a pastor's daughter when I was very young, but then we were ostracized after my parent's divorce. (AOG) but I continued to go with my grandmother. Then in my teens I was part of the youth group. But I was never comfortable with the hypocrisy I would see. 1/

    I was in a weird Quaker evangelical setting. We had a 6am prayer meeting every Tuesday. People prayed for he troops dozens of times each week. In years of attending no one ever prayed for peace.

    I was wondering if you could say which Bible translations were favored by Protestant Evangelicals in the USA. I was guessing KJV followed by NIV, but that's not based on evidence.
