@jd_mathbio My initial reaction is that attack rate alone doesn't give enough info to determine herd immunity. Time series?
For the standard SIS model, there is a relation between R0/herd immunity and attack rate (see Rohani/Keeling book).

But I doubt that the assumptions (homogeneous mixing, no change in transmission) are applicable to real-world outbreaks.
