Around half a million worldwide is the right ball park. But 2,500 for Switzerland during an ordinary flu season just makes no sense.

Agreed, 2500 seems too high for primary cause of death. If excess mortality is overlapping with the flu epudemic, it might be the flu causing it (but it may be other reasons). What is an "ordinary" flu? Depending on the influenza virus, severity and mortality varies a lot too.
