Agree, but not in the heat of outbreak research when we need urgent answers. I reviewed > 120 papers on biorvix and medrvix last weekend and must say: lots of papers, little advances for what we need in the day to day outbreakresponse.
Little advances from preprints? I disagree with that. While there is indeed a lot of mediocre science, several key papers on incubation time, R0, serial interval, doubling time, international spread, patient charateristics and disease severity have been published as preprints.
