This will depend on whether transmission is more similar to SARS (superspreading) or influenza. In the former case, maybe 1 out of 10 could initiate a superspreading event. In the latter case, around 5 of 10 cases could initiate new transmission chains.

The only demographic distribution was for a subset (20ish) of the initial cohort (41) published in The Lancet. For the current 2000+ cases only the China CDC knows and, so far, isn’t telling.
