When I first moved into Merced Heights two years ago (neighborhood over from this fellow), the first thing I did was install security cameras and a home security system. It was common for the majority of the homes on the block to have security cameras.https://twitter.com/uuilly/status/1453060699458990083 …

We were fortunate to live on a pretty tight-knit street where we constantly had folks hanging around outside. It was like an informal neighborhood watch. Not a single package was ever stolen (even though there were quite a few boxes "delivered" right on the sidewalk).

We never had an attempted break-in. Once, when we accidentally left our garage door open for a few hours, not a single person even walked near to take a look at the interior. We had one car "break-in" because we forgot to lock the doors and someone rifled through our glovebox.

With all that said, we saw and heard enough around us to know we were extremely fortunate and that it was just a matter of time. In fact, our prior home in SoMa had plenty of break-ins during the few years we lived there.

Crime has been out of control (not news). Getting rid of the inept @chesaboudin would be the first step. But it's going to be a long road to making sure crime is an exception, not the norm. Meanwhile, we called it quits after over a decade and moved on.
