Can we take a moment to recognize the incredible work that @LoriHaasVA has done to get us to this point in #Virginia -- the home state of @NRA
For those of you who don't know, Lori is the most influential person on gun violence prevention in the Commonwealth. (Important Thread)
Lori's daughter was shot in french class at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.
She survived what was then the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

.@LoriHaasVA along with @papagodd began showing up in the halls, in the offices, at committees, subcommittees, everywhere to plead with officials to pass stronger gun laws to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.
They were ignored, by Republicans in control but also Dems
She kept coming back, this took time. More tragedies occurred
@LoriHaasVA became the Virginia State Director of @CSGV, she gained the respect, admiration, and in some cases fear of elected officials.
She became a go-to for GVP for candidates and power players in #Virginia
Every January, crowds at the Martin Luther King Day of Action calling for an end to #gunviolence grew. Every year more activists packed the committee rooms and halls of the General Assembly.
Over past twelve years, @LoriHaasVA changed the passion gap on the @NRA's home turf.
In July, when @GovernorVA convened the special session -- @LoriHaasVA spearheaded the massive GVP rally with @CSGV @bradybuzz @GiffordsCourage @amnesty @MomsDemand and others as show of force.
This rally freaked out Virginian Republicans so much that they quickly adjourned.
That adjournment will be known as one of the great political blunders in the history of Virginia politics.
Tonight, it cost those Republicans both Houses and power in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
