Exciting! 1. No humoral responses to Cas9 detected, 2. Chromosomal translocations with triple KO detected but decreases over time (no apparent growth adv), 3. Long term engraftment - avg half life of T cells is 84 days vs 1 wk with previous engineered NYESO T cells

Carl June was the PI on the first gene editing trial, in 2009, and continues to lead in essential ways. Key findings from this trial at Penn will inform, enhance, and accelerate gene editing trials in cancer and beyond.

It makes me feel a bit vulnerable to have this all out there, but here it is: my scientific life story! Very happy and grateful to be where I am

Naive question to CRISPR/Anti-CRISPR people: Are there some bacteria-encoded anti-anti-CRISPR proteins already described? Or would it be "easier" for bacteria to just use other anti-phage defense systems instead? 🤔

Thanks, ! "Anchoring the [CRISPR J] issue, Hank Greely..effectively dismantles the argument that the human genome—“the heritage of humanity” as UNESCO calls it—should be kept inviolate." Also notes I said plausible good uses are rare.

Her gene-editing tool could cure disease and change the human race. But what happens if it falls into the wrong hands? Jennifer Doudna, Kavli Prize recipient of 2018, talks ethics.

Pleased (and humbled) to announce that I've been appointed to 's newly formed Committee on Emerging Science, Technology, and Medicine. Very much looking forward to working with such a distinguished (and friendly) group of scholars.

Re: germline editing debate. The moratorium failed to gain momentum, but initiatives to foster a wider policy debate didn't do better. So reviving the moratorium is fair game, yet report remains >>> moratorium call IMHO.

The mere claim that such short inserts support nCoV origins "unlikely to be fortuitous in nature" [sic] is already highly suspect. This is a classic case of searching for lost keys only under a lamppost. A fearful world does not need to fuel conspiracy theories with bad analyses.

Just checked their results. The similarity is spurious. Out of 4 inserts they identify between NCov and SARS, 2 are found in bat coronavirus. Of the remaining two, only one is most similar to HIV, and is so short (6 AA) that the similarity is not higher than chance given database
