Would you consider rephrasing to “died by suicide “? It seems like a small thing, but “committed” is a holdover from when suicide was commonly seen as sinful. There are good resources explaining best practices in reporting on these events.

@cnn he died by suicide...not committed. so sad, he is one of my favorites. -
I use "killed himself" or the more diplomatic "ended his life". No shaming, no excuses, just the facts, ma'am.
