The key is we need to make the current programs less bureaucratic. I agree we need great protection.

The FDA approves 99% of requests for expanded access to experimental drugs. We have a friend on one. He was approved within days. https://www.asco.org/advocacy-policy/asco-in-action/federal-right-try-bill-could-do-more-harm-good-patients-life …pic.twitter.com/77hM0v73og

Agreed. I've worked in biomedical and we shipped out products for expanded access within days of initial Dr contact. Meaning they contacted us first, then FDA, then faxed us the FDA approval. A few days at most. None were ever declined by the FDA that I know of.

The people who are against this make no sense. You can't do more harm to someone who's dying. Also, I don't care what they think or believe, and I don't buy that the FDA approves 99% of requests. Tell us what you know and can prove. Otherwise, stop wasting our time.

You can bankrupt their families paying for untested and unregulated products sold on a false hope. You can harm future patients by making it harder to recruit to proper randomised trials to find out if the treatment is really beneficial or not.

I’m on the fence about this. Having worked as a clinical-trial coordinator, I’ve seen how devastating it is to patients & families when the drugs don’t work. I’m all for offering hope, but it needs to be legitimate. In many cases, good hospice care would be the more humane path.

Right To Try would allow access to any drug, device or biological product that has based Phase 1 trials, a ver low bar. https://www.asco.org/advocacy-policy/asco-in-action/federal-right-try-bill-could-do-more-harm-good-patients-life …pic.twitter.com/BUP3tRAFFd
