    Courage certainly is standing up to power when it is inconvenient and there is likely to be retribution. The Sen. Mitt Romney vote absolutely fits that definition of courage and is historic. ... whatever else you might say of him & his stances, past, present, or future.

    Recent controversies across the U.S. about the historical dimensions of (de)naming, monuments, & much more cast into sharp relief the stakes & significance of representing the past accurately & ethically, even if that history is challenging & generates additional debate.

    Given Rand Paul's outing of a whistleblower, it would seem that his philosophy can no longer be called "libertarian" - so what should it be termed?

    Rand Paul put the whistleblower in serious danger, presumably to show his servility to Trump and his outright hostility to government ethics and integrity. 2022 can’t come soon enough ... he needs to go.

    The U.S. is rapidly marching toward the moment where every major presidential statement & speech will be more about spectacle & show than content & policy. Or memorable, moving words & ideas. With no more formal press briefings, this is a really remarkable shift.

    💯 % on this. I also can’t help but note that as a general historical principle conspiracies, if the exist at all, virtually always are revealed quite rapidly. Almost none stand the twin tests of time and intensive investigation.

    These conspiracy theories are so nuts. A major problem with the caucuses is that there's *no secret ballot*. The results of many precincts are on twitter. There's room for lots of temporary chaos and incompetence, but not really for much deceit.

    Today is the 150th anniversary of the 15th Amendment's ratification, granting black men the constitutional right to vote. But as Barbara Fields so powerfully reminds us here, the fight for equality — at the ballot box & elsewhere — did not end there & indeed still rages on today.
