  3. When we were in Detroit for the meeting last year, Team Teresa had a chance to sit in the same seat Rosa Parks refused to surrender on that day in 1955 in her fight against racial segregation.

  5. Rosa Parks’ famous 1955 act of resistance on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment move on a tired ride home from work (as it’s often depicted), but was a well-organized action by a seasoned civil rights leader.

  8. At this Thursday’s 2pm kick-off Finance & Housing Committee meeting, I’ll be joined with folks from the Orca for All campaign—organizations and workers who’ve been advocating for policy to expand transit pass benefits to residents and workers across Seattle.

  14. If you're concerned about someone in need of shelter, call 2-1-1 to connect to resources. If 2-1-1 is busy, the 24-hour Crisis Line 866-427-4747 can provide info on shelters. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. Seattle Police Dept. can provide transport to warming centers & shelters.

  15. All City-funded shelters have expand capacity to accommodate all people in need of safe shelter during the severe weather. Shelter is also available in City Hall, 600 4th Ave. No referral forms are necessary for accessing these emergency resources & no one will be turned away.

  17. - King County Administration Building at 500 4th Avenue in downtown Seattle will offer 50 additional emergency shelter beds through tonight, January 15. The shelter serves people who identify as men, age 18 and older, from 7pm to 6am.

  18. - The Bitter Lake Community Center at 13035 Linden Ave N. opened last night & will and run 24 hours a day as a warming center & overnight shelter until Friday, January 17, at 8:00am. Adults, families with children, couples, & those with vehicles are welcome at this facility.

  19. Weather Response Update: New emergency shelters have been opened. - Seattle Municipal Tower at 700 5th Ave. is open to all adults & pets; no one will be turned away. People may arrive at 7pm, doors open at 8pm. The shelter will operate through Friday morning, January 17.
