    CMO England statement: We can confirm that two patients in England, who are members of the same family, have tested positive for coronavirus. 

The patients are receiving specialist NHS care, and we are using 
tried and tested infection control procedures to prevent 
further spread of the virus.

    update: The have declared that this is a public health emergency of international concern. Read the joint response from the four UK CMOs on what this means for the UK risk level 🔽 Risk to UK individuals remains unchanged.

    We are advising an increase of the UK risk level from low to moderate. 

This does not mean we think the risk to individuals in the UK has changed at this stage, but that government should plan for all eventualities.

    We're working with and to monitor the Coronavirus situation: ▶️ PHE will be on hand for flights arriving at Heathrow direct from Wuhan and information will be provided at all UK airports. The risk to the UK public is low.

    Statement from DHSC: Coronavirus. From today, enhanced monitoring will be in place at Heathrow Terminal 4 to meet direct flights from Wuhan. Public Health Endland officials will check for visible symptoms and provide information about symptoms, and what to do if they become ill, to all passengers. The risk to the UK public is low.

  14. Multi-morbidity is increasing: it is an issue the medical profession needs to address. Increasing specialisation only makes sense if we also maintain and celebrate generalist skills throughout our careers. This BMJ article with leaders of the UK medical profession explains why.

  16. The flu season has started relatively early this year. It is important that those most vulnerable to bad outcomes from flu, including pregnant women, those with several health conditions and those aged 65 or over, do not put off having their  jabs.

  19. Great to see 2 reports of reductions in antibiotic use in both humans and animals. Resistant infections in humans rose 9% in a year however. Safely reducing antibiotic prescriptions remains a priority. Reports by &
