Big news for Australian dung beetle research and innovative education programming and planetarium visualization of biodiversity data. Congrats to our curator Dr. Nicole Gunter () on being awarded an CAREER grant!

A new species of Vates from the Atlantic rainforest. First record of the genus from that rich but highly threated biome. Vates phoenix represents the re-birth of the mantis collection at the Museu Nacional de Brasil, destroyed in a fire in 2018 (hence the name "phoenix"). Link👇

Everyone can have a role in saving insects. Here's how:

New research on out just yesterday by . They impale their prey! Makes sense looking at their scary front legs adorned with an array of spines. Great to have this morphology linked to a novel hunting strategy.

When people think of bugs, they don't often think of parental care. But look closely at this moss mantis (and her insane camo) to spot some small surprises. I think Haania sp.; Danum Valley, Borneo. I don't recall who in our group found her, but it was a top-10 rainforest moment.

Not a mantis, not a fly, not a wasp. Nevertheless, the wasp-mimicking mantisfly persists. (Climaciella brunnea, Texas)

I never have to enter another Lepidoptera synonym ever again. My heart is full. Mad credit to all of our and students, because none of this would ever have been possible without them.

3 years. 8 students. 13 volunteers. 42 cabinets. 864 drawers. 55,251 specimens. It's been a long road, but finally, at long last, the collection is digitized. It's done. It’s done! IT’S DONE!! Big credit to:

What can an do to help address the insect diversity loss? Great set of points made by

The typical bark positions itself head down when resting on tree trunks. Why? Perhaps gravity helps when they go for prey.

All you have to do to blow people's minds is grab a handful of paper wasps! Just make sure only you know they're stingless males. You'll be a legend.
