Don’t be afraid to call for help. This change to DC’s “Good Samaritan” law was made by to ensure care gets to those who need it fast. It’s an important public health response to an epidemic that killed more than 400 people in DC last year alone.

#DYK You are protected if you try to help someone who is overdosing? You can call 911 without fear of arrest if drug paraphernalia is around. You will not be arrested for any drugs/alcohol on the scene when you seek help or administer Naloxone to help reverse an overdose.

I’ve been in touch w/ WMATA & WMSC. Safety recs, standards, training, & compliance are crucial. So is the relationship & trust b/w WMATA & WMSC for a shared & accountable plan to get trains back & confidence rebuilt. Both will be before Transpo Cmte Feb 2 & this will be a focus.

Metro’s board says structural relationship w/ its safety oversight body, the Metrorail Safety Commission, is “untenable.” Most outspoken they’ve been. Tensions from Metro’s side have been simmering for months over 7000-series return to service, operator training + other issues

I will vote to override the Mayor's veto of the Revised Criminal Code Act. The RCCA modernizes our criminal code, making it more transparent and equitable, and will promote public safety.

Today, @CMCharlesAllen and I are moving to override the Mayor’s veto of the Revised Criminal Code Act. The veto threatens to unravel years of work and thorough study that has culminated in a criminal code that is more just, equitable, & clear -- making us all safer.

The RCCA is the product of 16 years of research, 51 public meetings, reams of commentary, listening, and compromise. It’s a landmark achievement and national model that DC should be proud of. The Council passed it unanimously - it’s time to override this veto unanimously.

I am vetoing the “Revised Criminal Code Act of 2022.” A complete overhaul of our criminal code is a once-in-a-century opportunity. I believe it’s more important to get this opportunity right than to add policies & weaken penalties into what should be a bill that makes DC safer.
