What is also evident is that these same people in power will use this moment to continue to do nothing. To look at polling stations with lines around the corner, in the rain, in the middle of a pandemic and shrug their shoulders.

To apply a modern day poll tax on returning citizens. This is not how you remember a giant like John Lewis. Your words are empty where your actions have long since assigned you to the wrong side of history, justice, and the building of a more perfect union.

I’ll miss John Lewis, C.T. Vivian, and other civil rights heroes who have taken their rest. I’m forever gratitude for the path they paved. It is my hope that this country, and those in power, show the same gratitude through action. Not empty words.
