The reactionaries on the Supreme Court are the ones "destroying the institution." They are doing it by making clear to the American people just how politicized and aggressively anti-democratic American judicial review has become.

How long until cops argue that it was ok to shoot someone b/c they didn't store their documents in this don't-shoot-me pouch. God this country is so screwed up.

It sad that we are all facing the real prospect of global climate catastrophe and yet some guys (it's 95% guys) continue to deal with their feelings of inadequacy this way.

More open-source law textbooks: a new free, openly-licensed text by the estimable Duke Law Prof Samuel Buell on the law of corporate crime. There is no reason for law school texts to cost $200 or more and open-source books like this one prove that.

And that fact is obvious both to Pope Francis, and, increasingly, to the U.S. Catholic laity. /end

Nah, a campaign to deny communion to America's pro-death-penalty pols (again, in both parties) ain't gonna happen. B/c many of the U.S. Catholic bishops are political conservatives first and Catholics second. 4/

And then in 2018, Pope Francis revised the catechism to make clear that capital punishment is flatly "inadmissible". Right now, if you're a Catholic supporting the death penalty, you're out of step w/the catechism of the Catholic Church. So, how about it, bishops? 3/

Which is surprising b/c in late-90s John Paul II made clear that permissible scope of penalty was far narrower than many U.S. pols (from both parties) would prefer. In 2001, JPII asked GWB to spare Timothy McVeigh from execution. Timothy McVeigh. 2/

Bishops denying communion on the basis of abortion politics always seemed selective. No similar effort by bishops to deny communion to pro-death-penalty pols, for example. 1/

listen, I don’t know how many angels y’all can coax onto the head of a pin, but the idea that the 1789 constitution was an anti-slavery document would have surprised the actual people who opposed slavery at the founding

This is what W3rd St in the Village looks like basically every day. Why? Bc NYC continues to handle trash by piling plastic bags on the sidewalk. ⁦⁩ it’s time for containerization. Take away some street parking and install big containers on every block.

Why do we have *any* free parking in NYC for non-NYC residents? Easthampton, NY charges non-residents $500/year to park at its beaches. Or you can pay $50/day. So why shouldn't NYC be charging non-residents at least that much to park in NYC?

Jesus that took way too long. The extremist American form of judicial review is long overdue for a reappraisal. Neo-Thayerians, assemble!

Why do parts of Connecticut and NJ get to partially dictate the air and noise quality of my neighborhood? Maybe I should go start honking a horn outside their house

"Behaving badly" is a woman who was supposed to be a bartender, who didn't attend a fancy overpriced university, getting elected to Congress and then showing up at a fancy party wearing a fancy dress that makes everyone else cling desperately to their fancy purses and wallets.
