CIA is still not entirely correct... Actual Sanskrit Words are 'Simha' and 'Pura'... Word 'Singam' is a Tamil word for lion derived from the Sanskrit word... The city is actually founded by Tamil Hindus... In other Indian languages, it goes like Singh, Sinha etc.
