Our #K9 officers serve as the first line of defense against explosive threats to Agency personnel & buildings at HQ & abroad.
Our #K9s are also on-call 24/7 to assist local law enforcement, first responders, & other federal government agencies search for explosives.pic.twitter.com/FyVg4NwDhz
CIA’s #K9 Explosive Detection program is 1st US Police Canine Association-certified “Detector Training Center” & one of largest in DC Area.
We often train dogs for local law enforcement.
This #K9 class we are training a pup for @fairfaxpolice & one for @fredcova Fire Marshal.pic.twitter.com/e1k5MUF5wy
For the “Fall 2017 Puppy Class” we needed to find 6 dogs: 4 for CIA and 1 each for @fredcova & @fairfaxpolice.pic.twitter.com/rh7qbYOMkV
Our “puppies” range in age anywhere from 8 months to 2 ½ years old & are almost always dogs being released from service dog programs.
While over-the-top, impossible to turn off energy isn’t always great in a service dog, it is exactly what our #K9 trainers are looking for.pic.twitter.com/3j6Ag0iF7l
Our #K9 instructors visit several organizations —like @SSDOGS & @PBBassociation— testing puppies for potential inclusion in the class.pic.twitter.com/E6NKsQXSgI
Like many #K9 explosive detection programs, we use Labrador Retrievers because of their non-stop energy, friendly demeanor, & love of food.pic.twitter.com/Xxm400Br7G
CIA’s #K9s are trained using food rewards, so a strong food drive & a high level of energy are very important.pic.twitter.com/n8kLK6xndK
CIA #K9 instructors run tests to see how pups react to various situations they might encounter during training & on the job.pic.twitter.com/qSK7oTMKZH
Our #K9 instructors evaluate & score each dog. Once all programs are visited & all dogs are scored, they take the dogs with highest scores.

Does the CIA also have training classes for cats? Asking for a friend.
Hello cinnamon....sweet girl, we salute all the service dogs that risk there lives and also the ones that serve privately, seeing eye dogs
She is not a service dog- just an old lab who could use her own service dog. She takes 5 meds 2x a day
She's a beauty.
I have been her godmother for 13 years( her family adopted her at 1). She was very ill this year but recovered. She lives next door.
She is absolutely beautiful. And she certainly looks like she is well loved.
