I'm very impressed with @kate_manne's analysis of cruelty in intimate relationships for exactly the reasons I discuss in the interview. Am I wrong?
Do you disagree with her analysis? (are you more sympathetic to dehumanization?).

No fan of dehumanization, Paul. That’s why I object to Manne’s theory of misogyny—where we are all just cogs in a relentless patriarchal machine. But what if there is no such machine? What if both sexes equally capable of cruelty? Sure, both sexes are capable of cruelty. I get the sense that you've never read what Manne says about cruelty & dehumanization. And so you're criticizing me for liking a view you know nothing about. Check it out -- it's well-argued and you might agree with it.

See here for a summary that connects with Manne with other like-minded scholars:https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/11/27/the-root-of-all-cruelty …

N. Christakis also sympathetic to a leftist-feminist take recently too. What’s going on at Yale?

I’m with Christine on this.

Another book I would recommend is Susan Pinker’s “The Sexual Paradox”.

It's nothing new; Against Empathy has clear support for feminist theory in some of the examples. He seems to simply believe it's real.

Once again everything reduced to power dynamics, stripped of all nuance, pursuit of truth, logic, empiricism and objective morality disregarded.
