    In bizzarro world, where Presley obviously lives, “defunded” means “huge increases in funding for decades”

    For years, we defunded schools. We defunded health care. We defunded programs that keep us safe, healthy & housed. A lot of people who feign outrage when we talk about divesting from systems that perpetuate violence, trauma & death were quiet about the above policy violence.

    All the criticism never voiced, the ideas never expressed, the alternative perspectives never heard, is cancel *culture*.

    I hear almost daily from people who tell me about some woke horror going on in their institutions, or circles, and who end by saying for God's sake don't ID me, or I could lose my job. It is NOT NORMAL to have to live like this! We have overnight created a sick, demented society.

    I had two thoughts after reading this, from Bari’s Substack. 1) We need more public voices like Paul’s; and 2) Some of the school’s programs may violate Title VI (if it receives federal funds). Some “anti-racist” programs are racially discriminatory:

    Don't use the term mistress for a woman who is in a long-term sexual relationship with, and is financially supported by, a man who is married to someone else. Instead, use an alternative like companion, friend or lover on first reference and provide additional details later.

    Superficially it sounds like segregation, which is reactionary. But “folx” with an “x” makes it progressive.

    was mildly skeptical of widespread segregation by race for affinity groups. faculty friend at Michigan state got this. 'affinity group for white folx and affinity group for people of color'
