I'm fine with this. Drag queens (and kings) are a fabulous part of gay culture.

But surely a big part of acceptance is presenting LGBT as everyday people and not overblown stereotypes?
-
Fairly sure this isn’t their only shot at LGB representation for the whole year.
-
Not in a library with little kids!
-
Do you also disapprove of pantomime dames? We in UK have had family entertainment TV shows presented by drag queens (Lily Savage, for instance).
-
I love drag, but I'm not convinced it's suitable for young children. It is a highly sexualised gay male ritual. Panto dames aren't (usually) drag - they're de-sexualised and part of a different tradition. I think Lily was the only proper drag act who made a transition to telly?

I used to back in the day when I spent half my life in Lulu’s in Cologne. It seemed quite harmless then and a long way from the characters with the horns.

Caroline, with all due respect, you are not exactly qualified to wax lyrical and lecture about what is good or bad for children in terms of representation of lesbians and gay men. Traditional Xtians don’t exactly have the best record, although I know many good and inclusive ones.
-
Do you need to be ‘qualified’ Julie? As a Christian I believe that every single human being has inherent dignity and worth. You don’t teach children tolerance & acceptance by presenting them with the grotesque or by lying to them that sex is fluid and demand they accept it.

Do they have clear DBS?
-
Presumably?
-
That kind of needs establishing before this is rolled out, with anybody!
-
If they aren't having unsupervised access, do they need a dbs?
-
It’s normally standard.
-
Is it? I've only worked within schools so was unaware it was expected so widely.

I will ask that question when BBC Radio Somerset interview me about this campaign
#DQST on Monday at 8am. I'm hopeful we can see this offensive hypersexualised parody pulled. The library are unable to return phone calls so I was unable to ask them directly.pic.twitter.com/KN7gG5xWTh

What’s the purpose? Are they exceptional story tellers, or is it an exercise in thrusting gender & sexual diversity upon young children? The Early Years industry are still making headway in employing male practitioners.
