San Francisco is giving out hotel rooms with room service, laundry, security, social services and free alcohol and marijuana. It should come as no surprise that people are flocking here from all over.

For the record I am in support of the hotel rooms, especially for those who are sick, elderly, or mentally ill. However, I think there is a subset of our homeless population that is capable of taking care of themselves. And giving out alcohol & marijuana just feels off.

I am a *big* fan of the legislation being pushed by
@RafaelMandelman for safe campsites. That seems like an obvious need. Many residents can't walk safely on the sidewalks as they are blocked with tents.3 replies 3 retweets 35 likesShow this thread -
I'm also a fan of requiring tents to be in authorized campsites once we have them. It isn't fair to renters & homeowners that they are surrounded by tents & feces. My friend is moving to Idaho with her baby for the summer because she's scared to walk with a newborn in SF.

Replying to @michelletandler
It's also not sustainable. As the % chance of physical threat each time a person walks by a tent/trash/feces site increases, the "homeless are dangerous" heuristic risks becoming reality rather than irrational. Not good for anyone. For me, I get threatened w violence ~1/30 times

Wow. I’ve lived here 23 years. Only been mugged and beat up once.. Many instances of MUNI and BART attempted theft as well . But the last 2 months, while downtown for work, violence, insanity and threats from criminals and homeless have gotten so much worse.#SF#Scared#Taxpayer

Not according to @chesaboudin . If and when life assumes some normality (a very broad term) the issues around crime in this town may be nearly intractable.
