South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s decision to run for president was a surprise when he first mentioned it to his husband. The Afghanistan War veteran would be the first openly gay nominee of a major presidential party. @JDickerson sat down with @PeteButtigieg for @CBSSunday.pic.twitter.com/ZwZgPTgx5e

I've never been more moved and inspired by a candidate. @PeteButtigieg is going to lead with respect and empathy, will address our country's biggest challenges w/ his mayoral "let's get it done" approach, and will be the calm and rational leader we need right now. #PeteForAmerica

i will put more thought into the candidates’ message and their ability to be law abiding citizens. pete buttigieg has my vote because he comes across as smart, caring and well informed. his husband has those qualities too. we would be lucky to have them in the white house.

Well-spoken, thoughtful/reflective, and wicked smart (both of them). @PeteButtigieg fills the space of commitment to serve a greater good through the military and intelligent governance which is almost non-existent in the current WH.

I think it's great that MSM reminds us that Mayor Pete is gay, 564 days before the election. Soon, copywriters' fingers will tire of typing it.

The media has a bizarre fixation, or its readers and viewers? Readers and viewers will forget. After two years, readers and viewers have learned to ignore reports that @realDonaldTrump lies continuously. Notice that Mueller Volume II has gotten short shrift in the reporting.

Content is pushed by editors and news directors. Their claim, "We're giving the public what they want" has never been true.

You give the fourth estate way to much credit for power. Ayn Rand's Ellsworth Toohey was bigger than life. No editorial writer is that powerful.

It was the NYT publishing "The Pentagon Papers" and the Washington Post's Watergate coverage that helped derail a US President.

Yes, I accept that. The original argument was whether editors choose the news or whether readers choose what they want to read. I argue that the readers wanted the Pentagon Papers, else the editors wouldn't have published them.
