I’ve complained to @Nordstrom & @nordstromrack many times about being watched & followed around their stores to no satisfaction.

Wow, that is infuriating. And while I don't doubt their senior leaders and social media staff take this seriously, it means squat unless they actually change the how they staff at the store level. Expressing their "outrage" is easy, actually changing things takes effort.
-
I am not surprised, not anymore. These days I am just adding more and more stores on my list of stores to avoid. The good news I am finding more urban/minority owned business in my neighborhood which has been turning out great.

Reminds me of Barney’s case. Teen bought very expensive belt, stopped by cops because store said his credit card was fraudulent. Read: you’re black, have no money, you stole it, don’t come here. Belt: $350.00 Lawsuit Settlement: $45,000 Justice: Pricelesspic.twitter.com/0nGiAch9ch

What year was this?
-
Shopping: 2013 Settlement: 2016 I am glad he returned the belt and can now buy as many belts as he likes (somewhere else).http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/manhattan/black-student-wins-45g-settlement-barneys-stop-frisk-article-1.2502760 …

I remember that was around the same time Oprah Winfrey was Profiled too. forgot the exact story but I think she was trying to buy an expensive purse & sales clerk was being rude.

Sadly shopping in America while Black in most high end department stores meanwhile the real thieves are robbing them blind because they know that they are busy watching Black folks. I used to work in a department store thieves didn’t dress or look like thieves at all.
-
This is so true!! Most thieves act like their buying something

Mistakes happen, you know why? Millions of dollars worth of items actually stolen from retail every week in this country, taxing police resources and causing increases in prices, black, white, foreign, male, female suspects.
-
You mean profiling happens
-
Profiling happens, based on race, age, sex, etc...but you aren’t getting my point, it happens because of crime, if thefts didn’t exist, stores wouldn’t “profile”. Every customer, employee, is looked at as a risk..for profit or loss
-
These people were assumed to be stealing because they were black. Assumed to be criminals, which is racial profiling. It is wrong and should not be normalized or justified under any circumstances.
-
So pull up the link to a nonblack mistaken for stealing at Nordstrom...
-
What are you talking about?
-
I shop at that location regularly. My husband & I are both black. We've never been profiled there. The majority of the employees there are black as well. There's been A LOT of theft from that store. I honestly think it was a mistake.
-
The people involved and owner of the store don't seem to think it was a mistake. Glad you have had positive experiences there, though.
