My guess would be that the court would determine the parents as being a flight risk. The parents have previously expressed an interest in taking the child to Italy for continued life-support in opposition to the courts and doctors.

So the child is now the property of the State? Hell yes, they’re a “flight risk”. I’d swim across the fucking Channel to flee such Orwellian repression.

That is a perfectly normal emotional response for a parent. However with a terminal prognosis it lacks pragmatism from a medical or scientific position. The life support only delays the inevitable and prevents the parents from dealing with that inevitably. They need to grieve.

You prove my point sir. The state now decides who lives and dies. The state decides where and how. This is the point I am making; not the medical “viability” of the patient. The states’s argument ends when it refuses care, within its purview, but should not hold hostage the child

I’m not arguing. I’m just stating the facts of the matter from a dispassionate point of view. I more fascinated by the psychological aspects of this issue. Namely how the system tries to push the parents into the least psychologically damaging choice but the parents choose /1

To prolong their own suffering and the brain dead offspring’s existence. From an outside perspective, it’s counterintuitive to preserve the body when the mind is gone. Similar instance in my own experience go the other way. The plug was pulled and mental/emotional healing began.

Accepting the situation for what it is can only quicken the healing process for the surviving family. So while I understand the emotional response to the issue, I do not see how it changes the outcome. The child will die, the parents will grieve, life will go on. It’s never easy,

Such a sad story. And this is the healthcare system Democrats want for U.S.
