Pres. Trump's personal attorney, Michael Cohen, says he will plead the 5th in the Stormy Daniels lawsuit. The move allows Cohen to avoid testifying about the deal to keep Daniels from talking about an alleged sexual encounter with Mr. Trump: https://cbsn.ws/2Fit8v8 pic.twitter.com/GeXwg6JgnE

Why would he plead the 5th unless there was something to hide? How suspicious.

If I recall correctly, you can't plead the 5th unless you believe in good faith that testifying will incriminate you of felonious wrongdoings. So, Cohen is in a roundabout way admitting to being the criminal scum we all suspected he was.

No. This is standard legal practice. Any client facing a criminal investigation is advised by criminal defense attorneys to put civil case(s) on hold by asserting 5th. Civil depositions are mandatory & questions broad ranging. Correct move by Cohen.

"It's a reversal of sorts..." @sallyqyates says about Michael Cohen asserting his 5th amendment rights today in Stormy Daniels case. She adds to assert 5th amendment you have to have a good faith belief that your truthful answers would incriminate you in a crime. @NewsHour

Soooo...this is criminal defense standard process 101. If client is involved in civil suits and a criminal investigation begins on any other matter, client is advised to put civil cases on hold and refuse to testify by asserting the 5th. Basic practice.
