We were made to do this too? It helps you get into the minds of the colonists and see where they were coming from in order to practice debating hard arguments To learn about history is to learn about how people thought in those times not everything is racist ffs

This is a bs answer. There were no positive aspects of slavery.
-
Economically there was tons of positives that doesn’t make it right however No one is saying slavery was ok Far from that But it’s important to consider and learn about economy of slave era colonialists
-
The question would have to be “how did slave owners justify themselves?“ for this assignment to be valid. Asking the “positives” has the inherent premise that slavery was kinda ok from some perspective and that’s unacceptable.
-
Slavery went on for centuries! It’s important to understand WHY it happened so that it doesn’t happen again! Although, there still is slavery in the world unfortunately.
-
What does the Why even mean? And how do you understand the Why by implying that there was some sort of bright side to slavery?
-
WHY did slavery happen? Do you honestly think that’s not an important question to be asked in a HISTORY class?

-
Their point was the “why?” Doesn’t get answered by asking for the positives of slavery.

People’s reactions to this are so effed up. “So what there were positives, put yourself in the shoes of colonialists”. Wtf is wrong with you?
-
Can’t put myself in their shoes I’m not a kidnapper a murderer a rapist of men women and children. I’m not barbaric I’m not too lazy to work my own Cotten fields I don’t whip backs or cut off feet. I’ve never hung anyone from trees... I don’t imprison people ... Nope can’t do it.

So? There were positives from the pov of one side. Positives don't make something right. It is important to be able to understand what the arguments were about to be able to deconstruct them, and 8th grade is at the right level to learn how (or should be).
