I'm seriously wondering what in the world that teacher expected to be on the left side? N/A is the ONLY answer. Unless you count none, nothing, and the addition of "you've gotta be shitting me" to any of those answers.

There is positive in it. Not that I agree with it because there is way more negative in it. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this assignment. It's called critical thinking. Opens them up to think about all sides not just one.
-
It looks like it’s supposed to be positives from the slave’s point if view. Gotta disagree that there are any positives to being a slave.
-
It says it asked the positive or negative of slavery. Not of being a slave. As I said not that I think it is good but there may be positives to being a slave for some. Again not saying that its good. Too much narrow thinking is why we have most of our problems.
-
It says "The life of slaves" not Slavery. If the title is accurate to the directions, the teacher is asking how a slave's life is good. It wasn't. It wasn't good. There is no left side. There are plenty of times to have a balanced view. This isn't one of them.

You can’t change the past and you can’t rewrite history but you can learn it and learn from it no matter the good or bad people need to stop being so sensitive and start to move forward and stop trying to live in the past
-
You don't say that about 9/11 or the holocaust so don't say it about slavery

It is a horrible assignment, but happy to see they did not find any positive aspects

Actually it’s a brilliant exercise. Successful people always do something like this when making a decision. Doubt one child put anything in the positive side which means every child overwhelming opposes slavery. If that’s the case then why is this so bad?

What's the problem? Teaching them to think for themselves instead of repeating what's heard. Hpoefully they all came to the right conclusion. If not, a discussion of its history would correct it.

What about just teaching REAL History & keeping personal opinion/emotions out of it. When we learned about the Civil War- we didn't have to dissect why Slavery was bad/wrong. It was another growing point for this country! Let's just keep the fires burning - guess the outcome.
