The generation with access to the most information knows the least.
-
u can’t google sth u don’t know about. The issue starts in schools & families. in Europe, I grew up with grandparents who told me what they saw in wwII and we studied the Holocaust regularly in school. Sounds like
millennials were learning to pass standardised tests instead. -
There is plenty of blame to go around. A huge problem is kids do not read. It shows in their vocabularies and lack of basic knowledge. Schools are forced to teach to tests that are designed to break unions and make money for test companies.
-
let’s be clear: millennials aren’t kids. They’re 20ish-35 year olds now and they (we, I’m 32) do read (see article attached). But you’re right about the rest and it’s not gonna get better with Devos in the Education dpt.https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2014/09/millennials-are-out-reading-older-generations/379934/ …

I teach middle school. I'm 36. Very few of my students read. Instead, they prefer watching videos of people playing video games (you read that correctly) on YouTube. It shows in their lack of a developed vocabulary and knowledge.
-
Don’t diss let’s plays and other game streaming, they are fun. Also they’re middle schoolers. You can’t really judge them at that age. My brother wouldn’t have touched a book either at 12-15, but grew up to love books (he’s a Dickens fan in particular).
-
Nothing in my tweet was incorrect or intended to be a "diss." I care about them. I also believe in my original tweet...they have access to the most information but know the least.
-
You’re a teacher though and I know you said you basically have to teach for tests, but depending on what you teach, you could be the person that gets them interested in these things. (And my diss comment was about your YouTube video games reference.)

Millennials are age 22-35 in 2018. 18 year olds are GenZ. When was the survey conducted??
-
Did u take time to read study which is linked to article? Guess not. That is symptomatic of exactly what they are inferring."The study ... was conducted between February 23 and 27 and involved 1,350 interviews with American adults 18 and older."
-
I understand. I’m writing a research paper on the generations. Their definitions are wrong.
-
Good luck. I hope it is a PHd as I did looking at all the generations and what has evolved and what has regressed in terms of what defines a generation. Hope your orals go well. Peace, Jenny

And how many know that 25/26 million Russians died defeating Hitler? That would be interesting to know.
