It’s not about being built “well” it’s whether code requires it. The authority having jurisdiction should have made that call during the design. What does the code say?

I mean, it was built during a time when the requirements weren't in place. I'm glad the requirements are in place today for new construction.

Most buildings are required to retro fit in order to keep compliant. But all that pesky money that needs to be spent to do that...

No, it's standard for older bldgs. If it was retrofitted then they would be required. Most bldgs in New York do not have sprinklers. Maybe they will now because of a death.

If no sprinklers in this bldg fire chief needs to shutdown this bldg as safety hazards&also a hefty fine&pass the cost of fighting this fire a full investigation is required &evacuation of entire bldg until it up to fire code
