"Fear cannot be a driver for an officer's response to every incident," Baton Rouge police chief says, addressing police shooting death of Alton Sterling. "Unreasonable fear within an office is dangerous." https://cbsn.ws/2GpUNvs pic.twitter.com/C4ce51h862

I knew they would get a black dude to say this... fear is real sure.. this wasn’t fear.

I don’t believe he was fearful either. Our endemic societal racism (esp in the south), means black men are perceived as an intrinsic threat. LEOs know the public is unnecessarily afraid of black men. The fear excuse persists because they play to the public’s unjustified fear.

Why is there no fear when they arrest white mass shooters still dripping in blood from having just shot dozens of people? The fear excuse is just that, an excuse. There is no fear, this is a cleverly crafted police union tool that allows for legal execution of people of color.

I appreciate the police chief saying that. I've been thinking that the officers seem to be way too fearful to actually be effective anywhere but especially on the street. The minute they start screaming, all logic is gone and the trigger is pulled.

Police around the country need much more training. When will the country wake up to this fact?

So no charges were filed and now the firing is a low ball way to act as if something was done? This is a joke

Maybe but it aligns with what i think is a positive step in the right direction, the fear everywhere is driving irrational actions. It seems to be the new hot elephant in the room
