1 person has died from a self-driving auto as compared to how many others that died yesterday by cars driven by humans?!?!

A quick check and there were over 40,000 traffic related deaths in 2017. That’s at least 100 a day if distributed evenly. To be fair, many of these do make the local news just not national.

Great, they programmed a robot to drive like an average Uber driver. What could possibly go wrong?

Unfortunately the first death (with many to follow) until this hazardous practice of allowing computers to steer automobiles will be outlawed.

Riiiiiiiiiiight....and humans drivers kill how many people a year? Outlaw human drivers instead and automate all traffic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHzzSao6ypE …

Wonder what your opinion might be if the poor woman that was killed by an automated Uber car yesterday was your Mother?

I'd say I was glad it was an automated car, because it would have been far more likely to have happened if it was a human. At least the automated car had a higher probability of not hitting her. I will then push for more automation so that vehicular accidents are even less likely

Autonomous driving vehicles will doom themselves as the death toll rises and the multi million dollar awards to surviving family members reach critical mass.

And yet, even now they kill fewer people than human drivers do. How will they get so dramatically worse moving into the future that they start killing more people than the prototypes?

Since we’re not going to outlaw humans from operating automobiles they will (sadly) occasionally kill one another in them. That you would agree is unavoidable. However this woman’s death was avoidable by not allowing computers to steer cars amongst the defenseless public.

You are merely asserting that we are not going to outlaw humans from operating automobiles without evidence. If it is proven that outlawing them and allowing an entirely automated system of road traffic to be established would be optimal, then pursuing it would be for the best.
