Schools are being foolish to give detentions for Walkout participation. Kids often miss more than 17 minutes for nonsense such as pep rallies. Honoring the 17 dead is important and should have been endorsed by the schools.

Is this the same state that wants to bring back the coal mining industry? Going nowhere fast on many levels...

Kids, tell your school to "Go ahead, make my day". It is a badge of honor when you next apply to colleges and universities.

C'mon Pennsylvania, you can do better, our schools organized the walk-outs and made them teachable moments.

Way to blow a reachable moment and engage in true discourse.

Wtf is the point of teaching the history or civil rights and civil disobedience then. All they're verifying is that school is another prison, not a true learning environment.

Not all schools teach "real" history but push a watered down version palatable to powers that be. I'm also sad to say that while schools should be places of enlightenment, administrations don't relish free thinking. Usually per community attitudes.

Going to school to learn about limitations and restrictions. This is the choice Devos is fighting for. White wash, or ignore history all together. Why not right...so we can repeat it all over down the road.
