A $31.5 million victims' fund that started as a GoFundMe effort will to pay $275,000 to families of the 58 people killed in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history http://cbsn.ws/2FaG9aZ pic.twitter.com/NRmTiyJA05

Gun manufacturers should be paying these costs, not citizens via a GoFundMe campaign. Republicans (and @SenSanders) defeated a bill that would have made it possible to for victims and survivors to hit gun makers with class action suits, like tobacco and drug companies.

Yup...that is their insidious approach. Also ensuring the no $ goes to cdc to fund research into the health implications of access to gun.

Yes. Of course, real world "research" abounds into the impact of common sense gun laws: Australia, Canada, Japan, Germany, etc.

Yes. There is an abundance of evidence in the world. But our cowardly politicians can pretend to not “see” it. A little more inconvenient when NIH or CDC researchers are issuing damaging reports.

In a normal administration, you're right. But we have seen plenty of normally respected government agency research and reports, as well as CBO budget scoring ignored by this one and its acolytes.

Agree this admin is not normal. However Dickey Anendment was inserted in omnibus spending bill in 1996. So not new. NRA has been laying the groundwork to ensure that Americans are blessfully ignorant of the full cost of access to guns for some time. Repeal is unlikely now.

$15m of the $31.5m goes to victims families. Is the the other $16m administrative costs?

I'd say split between the survivors that were stuck with huge hospital bills
