I'm mixed on this. Yes it's his job but it also wouldn't have been smart to rush in without backup.
-
The entire argument for having them there is supposed to be to stop the violent incident sooner. If they're going to wait for backup, the casualty total isn't going to be reduced.
-
What if we could stop it before it even starts? Mental health evaluations, ban assault rifles. This should never have happened to begin with. The deputy shouldn't have been in this situation to begin with and neither should the kids.

I know of no person who would WANT to kill a kid. It would take very special training to be able to do it and I’m afraid resource officers today do not get that level of training. Teachers definitely do not. The mental damage this does to even police officers can be career ending
-
Actually he was a sworn deputy that had at least been with the department for long enough he could retire today. Resource officer most always are actual police officers. These officers are trained to stop the threat ..Not wait for swat to show up
-
Yes and how many times did he have to point a gun at a kid and shoot over his career? How many? I don’t care who you are, you don’t know how you will react until you are put in that situation. I have seen veteran cops fall apart over this.
-
They could ask Darren Wilson (shot Mike Brown dead), Tim Loehmann (shot Tamir Rice dead) or George Z (not a cop but shot Trayvon Martin dead). Plenty of cops can kill kids;
#NotAll but plenty do. -
I never said they don’t. I never said they can’t. I never said there aren’t bad cops either. Why always bring them into every conversation? I was raised by a family of officers and not 1 of them was a bad cop but I have seen the devastation of being forced to kill 1st hand.
-
BMA- I replied to renegadecowgirl, sorry to copy you. I know cops who are good and some have killed and others haven’t. But, teachers need to just teach and kids just learn. Other countries don’t put kids in “prison”, they severely restrict gun availability. USA should too.
-
You’re right they don’t but other country’s weren’t founded on the rights that this country was. We’ll never be like other country’s, which is what makes America great & Free. As a Mom, it’s offensive to me that we protect our money and health insurance info better than our kids
-
No matter what laws or bans we put in place, guns will always be here and be readily available to those who want to use them for evil. We NEED to accept that and secure our schools better. Regardless of what gun control we try to put in. Enough is enough. Mitigate the blood shed

The shooter had an assault rifle. The resource officer had a handgun. It's not rocket science folks. Ban assault weapons!

You going in with a nine millimeter and face a machine gun??? Guess he coulda tried to sneak up on him maybe... Idk sounds like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
-
Agree. No person with handgun can go up against AR-15. This cop knew he would die. Now he will live with what he didn't do for rest of his life. But he's alive & 17 are dead. Awful to hear by
#Parkland families. 2 other cops also suspended for inaction during prior calls to home. -
It is awful for sure
