“Assaulting”? Just exactly what does that mean? Yanking him up off his behind and telling him to stand? When I was a kid if you didn’t mind you got paddled. Whoever took discipline away from teachers should be taken out behind the barn themself.
#StandForTheAnthem -
People shouldn’t be yanked or paddled for exercising their constitutionally protected rights.

This is sad. America the beautiful. Do as I say or else. Freedom of expression and speech only applies if the racist oppressors agree with you.

These are reasons students don't stand: Parental exceptions based on religion. Student rights to freedom of expression. A physical disability.
-
Most of that is crap. There are private religious schools. Public schools are paid for by taxes.
-
That's beside the point. Public schools teach the Constitution, including the 1st amendment. As a teacher, I don't punish freedom of expression, or diversity, unless it is a danger to my students. I practice the 1st amendment; it's a teachable moment.
-
Who knows what the student was really doing? As a teacher, you should know very well how facts can be distorted in the press. Let's wait a minute before judging her.

Why is paid administrative leave a punishment? Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Not sure where to start-fact it’s February, it seems reasonable that 1) the students not standing is not new 2) she’s well versed in district policy. Therefore seems likely there’s more to the story. Also, West Virginia State Bd of Ed vs Barnette, 1943. Look it up- I’ll wait

On flag day no less.

Flag day? That’s weird- it was on June 14 last year
