A sharp increase in global methane emissions over the past decade is, in fact, from the fossil fuel industry, a new NASA study finds -- and the rise is “substantially larger” than previously thought.pic.twitter.com/Jzd6nvbj6t

I don't think they knew the full extent of the political blow-back because they are scientists. But I know them both and know that all the vindication of their work does not sooth their concern for our planet.

yeah, i also dont think that @shell & co. will change the policies bc of these "new" insights. maybe they just didn't want to make total idiots out of them selves in front of their own scientists by still deying it.

pretty sad. tell them how thankful german activists are for their work and that it helped us a lot next time you meet. but what am i even talking. look at our new gov, not even able to meet the 2020 climate goals. its really hard to say something hopeful. 😟

This is one study, and many others in good journals find different explanations. It will take a few years before there is consensus on the cause. Here is a bit of a summary https://www.climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/after-2000-era-plateau-global-methane-levels-hitting-new-highs …

They had better start draining the big swamps and marshes around the wold because they are producing so much methane.
