How does this interview have ANYTHING to do with the workers and their strike?? It's an outright commerical for Amazon which tries to make the cutting of employee hours (& corresponding pay) a good thing for workers. What??! :(

You can feel the tension?!! I wonder if the Amazon King has overstepped his boundary?!! Staging walkout on busiest day of the retail year?!!
-
What tension? He can easily fire everyone and replace them.
-
You can't retrain that many employees so soon. And the next batch could quite easily get unionized in the same way and strike too.
-
They are unskilled labor. What they do isn't even hard. It is just repetitive as hell. Amazon can also afford to bleed money for years. They can't wait out the union. Besides, shit is crazy expensive in those countries. Good luck without a job.
-
It would take a long time to train and replace 500 employees, and because they are unionised, they are protected from being fired while on strike in the EU/Germany. Amazon has to negotiate. If you don't wan't to play by EU rules, don't play there.
-
Amazon really don't have to negotiate though. They literally can go full automation.

A lot more workers are unionized in Cental Europe, it's very likely that whoever gets the next job will also be unionized and can walk off in much the same way. Many employee contracts protect striking too. And automation needs large upfront investment. Many companies can't
-
do that so quickly or have the spare money upfront to pay for something so much. It's cheaper in the long run, but to buy a robot needs you to pay tens of thousands while you only see the rewards gradually.
